Install an ignition interlock device from an approved vendor in all vehicles registered in the applicant's name
DC DMV requires an IID from one of its approved vendors in all vehicles registered to the person with DC DMV; expired tags must be surrendered, and a person without a District-registered vehicle may use another person's District-registered vehicle with the supplement form. Under D.C. Code § 50-2201.05a(c)(2) an interlock must be installed on each vehicle owned by or registered to the person.

Drive on the restricted (T-restriction) license for the required program period
DC DMV states a participant receives a restricted DC DMV driver license (restricted REAL ID or restricted Limited Purpose license) with restriction code T and may drive only designated vehicles with IIDs; the restriction remains for the period the license would have been revoked (six months for a first DUI conviction; one year for a second; two years for a third; one year for a first refusal) and is extended for program violations. CDL holders must downgrade to a non-commercial license. The restriction code is T.

When the interlock can be removed

DC DMV's violations page lists removing the device without prior approval from the DC DMV director as a violation, and states that instead of terminating a participant the director may require an additional revocation period of 60 days for a first violation, 90 days for a second, and 120 days for each subsequent violation, extending time in the program beyond the revocation period; early withdrawal or termination adds one year of revocation and suspends related registrations. No compliance-based early removal and no removal fee cap is stated.
