Privacy Policy

WheelsBack asks readers for no personal information and has no channel that could receive it through the site: there are no accounts, sign-up or contact forms, comment fields, newsletters, chat widgets, or lead submissions for readers anywhere on the site. Two kinds of data exist: the traffic and usage measurement described below, which is keyed to a random browser identifier rather than to a name or an address, and the email a reader chooses to send.

The Site is published in the United States for a United States audience. It does not sell personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined in US state privacy laws. If either ever changed, this page and the disclosures page would say so first.

The site measures how it is used so that missing content, broken links and confusing pages can be found. What is recorded: which pages are viewed, with their address and title; which links to official sources, vendors, downloadable files and, where present, labeled paid placements are followed; which state is chosen from the state selector, and which state and which calculator when one of the calculators is used (the figures and dates typed into a calculator are not recorded); which state when the knowledge check on a reinstatement page is completed (the answers chosen and the score are not recorded); which copy, embed and citation buttons are opened and used; use of the language switch and of the notice offering the Spanish version, with the language the browser reports; and text typed into the site search, lower-cased, with accents removed and cut to 60 characters, recorded when a search has no match or a result is opened. That search text is the only typed text the site records; it is meant for state names and terms, not personal details.

Measurement runs only on wheelsback.com, never on preview or development copies, and is not loaded for visitors whose browser identifies itself as automated. Some visits are also recorded as a replay of how the page was scrolled and clicked; every piece of text on the page is masked in those recordings, so nothing typed or selected is captured.

What is not done: the advertising and remarketing features of the measurement tools are switched off, no user identifier is assigned, measurement data is not used to build profiles or handed to any advertising system, and nothing in it follows a visitor to other sites. An IP address is sent with every request, as with any website; the site never stores it, and the measurement services use it only to derive an approximate location before discarding it, as their published policies state.

The site itself sets no cookies. The measurement services listed below set a small number of cookies: on wheelsback.com, a random identifier so that the pages of one visit, and repeat visits from the same browser, can be counted together (it identifies a browser, not a person); and, for the session-recording service, cookies on its own domain that it describes in its privacy statement. None of them is used to show advertising on this site. The site stores one value in the browser's local storage, whether the notice offering the Spanish version was dismissed, and nothing else.

Measurement is carried out by third-party services acting on the site's behalf, each configured as described above. The services in use are listed here with links to their own privacy statements. This list is produced from the site's configuration each time the site is published, so it changes only when a service is added or removed; the commitments above do not change with it.

Browser settings and extensions that block third-party scripts stop all measurement, and every page works fully without it. The site does not sell or share personal information, so a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal has nothing to opt out of; the site does not change its behavior in response to those signals. Each provider's own opt-out, where it offers one, is linked from its privacy statement above.

If a reader emails support@wheelsback.com or corrections@wheelsback.com, the message and the sender's address are used only to reply, to apply a correction, or to send a notice the sender asked for. They are not added to any list, are not shared with anyone other than the services that deliver and store WheelsBack's email, and are deleted once the matter is closed.

Readers are never asked to pay or to register. Where advertising placements are offered, the firm name, contact details and payment information an advertiser supplies are handled by the payment service named at checkout under its own privacy policy, are used only to publish and manage the placement, and are not used for any other purpose.

Outbound links lead to state agencies, legislatures, and vendors with their own privacy policies. WheelsBack has no control over those sites and learns nothing about what a reader does on an official source. For a link labeled "Affiliate link`, where one exists, the network behind it may report that a click led to a sign-up or a purchase and which state page it came from, never who the reader is or what was entered.

The site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. A message to support@wheelsback.com about an email sent by a child leads to its deletion.

Changes are published on this page, and the revision date in the summary moves. If advertising or affiliate programs are ever introduced, the disclosures page describes them and every affected link or listing is labeled where it appears.
