DUI license reinstatement cost calculator
What it costs to get a license back after a DUI is spread across several payees: the licensing agency's reinstatement fee, a fee for any restricted or hardship license before that, the agency's charge to accept an SR-22 filing where it states one, an ignition interlock program paid to a vendor, and tuition for a DUI education program paid to the provider.
This calculator adds them up for one state from the verified records behind that state's pages. A fee the state states as a single figure is added; a fee the state describes in words is shown in those words and left out of the total rather than approximated. Interlock costs use the vendor ranges from the cost page; education tuition is the reader's own figure from the provider.

This is arithmetic on published ranges, not a quote. The required period is set by the statute, the court or the licensing agency; vendors charge their own prices, and a vehicle, a lockout or a missed appointment can add fees. Figures are rounded to the nearest ten dollars.
What is counted, and from where
The reinstatement fee is the figure on the state's fee schedule for an alcohol-related suspension or revocation, as quoted on the state page. The restricted or hardship license fee comes from the state's hardship-license record and is included only when that box is ticked. The SR-22 agency fee is included only where the agency states a charge for accepting the filing; most states state none.
The interlock line is the same arithmetic as the interlock cost calculator on the published national ranges, for the months entered. It is switched on by default only in states whose statute requires an interlock for every first offender, and for a repeat offense wherever the state has any interlock provision.
What is not counted
Insurer charges are never recorded on this site: the one-time filing fee an insurer may charge for an SR-22 and any change in premium are outside the estimate. Court fines, court costs, towing, impound, attorney fees and lost wages are also outside it. Tuition for a DUI education program is set by the provider and is entered by the reader, not recorded here.
Several states charge different reinstatement fees for a first and a repeat offense, or add a separate fee for an administrative suspension; where the state page lists more than one figure, the calculator shows the wording rather than choosing one.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does a row say "shown as text, not added"?
- The verified record holds that fee only in words, for example "$50 plus $10" or "shown on the individual's record". The calculator shows the wording and leaves the amount out of the total rather than guessing a figure.
- Why is the interlock unchecked for my state?
- The box is on by default only where the statute requires an interlock for every first offender. In states where a first-offense interlock is at the court's discretion, applies only above a BAC threshold, or is not provided for, the box starts off and can be ticked if a court or agency has ordered a device.
- Does the total include insurance?
- No. Insurer filing fees and premium changes are never recorded on this site. The SR-22 line, where it appears, is only the fee the state agency itself charges to accept the filing.
